The New York Times recently recapped the discussions taking place, touching on the importance of parents and mentors; gender parity; and women and leadership in science and technology.

The summit features speakers from Melinda Gates, Anthony Lake, Shadi Sadr to Christiane Amanpour, Annie Lennox, and Christy Turlington Burns and hopes to kick start a new era of global action as we enter the second decade of the 21st century.
The theme of the conference is: “Delivering solutions for girls and women,” and plans to focus on political, economic, social/cultural, and technological solutions, as well as expand on Women Deliver’s hallmark of inclusivity, reaching out to new partners and new communities.

Scratch is open source animation software from MIT great for age 7 (or early readers) through adult. It is a free computer programming resource that makes it easy to create your own interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art — and share your creations on the web. At this event, everyone is welcome to try out Scratch and learn about the on-line exchange. You can join Scratch enthusiasts in the Washington DC-area to meet and learn from each other! All interested students, parents and teachers are invited.

Calling all girls! Join a day of math, science fun

The conference is organized by the Exeter Area General Federation of Women’s Club, the Greater Seacoast Girls Initiative and sponsored by local businesses. This is a great opportunity for girls to be exposed to the math, science and technology careers in a fun, hands-on experience with friends. This free, all-day workshop, is open to any girl in Grades 6 to 8. Because of the success achieved in the past four years, spaces available for the girls is up to 180.

The expo is open to all Chicagoland teen girls in grades 9th – 12th, parents, school staff (principals, teachers, counselors, and social workers), and businesses with teen-related services and/or products.
Teen participants will also interact with students through Illinois Institute of Technology’s Women’s Services Department, Society of Women Engineers, and the Admissions Office to learn about degrees in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). Women’s Leadership Conference Focused on Women’s Standing in the Workplace

Conference: An Interactive, Intergenerational Exploration of 21st Century Leadership
In Conferences, Leadership on February 11, 2009 at 11:07 pmOrganizers of a Women’s Leadership Conference at Davidson College next week are hoping to bring together 100 women – 50 students and 50 from the community – to help “create a new culture of female leadership in Davidson.” The conference, part of the college’s Chidsey Leadership Development program, is designed to bring together students and women from the community in an “interactive, inter-generational exploration of 21st century leadership,” organizers say.
